Review: Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Face Exfoliant

IMG_4770I went to Sephora to get the Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Face Mask, but grabbed this Exfoliant by mistake. I was a bit sad about this discovery, but not for long! This has become a regular in my skin care routine, and I think it’s the best scrub that I have ever used. Let’s take a closer look:

Claims:
“Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Face Exfoliant for normal to oily skin gently polishes away and dissolves dead skin cells and impurities to instantly reveal a healthy-looking, clear complexion. The purifying formula further works to refine skin texture, absorb excess oil, and regulate sebum production for perfectly balanced skin. ”

Does it deliver?
Refined skin texture – Yes, my skin feel so smooth after I use this! It really does help to dissolve and remove dead skin cells.

Healthy and clear complexion – Also yes! I have noticed a huge reduction in acne and my skin looks brighter and better than it has in a long time.

Regulates sebum- I have very oily skin, and I am usually skeptical when it comes to claims about reducing oil production, as I haven’t had much luck in the past. However, my skin hasn’t been quite as oily lately! I’ve been able to wear my Stay Matte foundation without needing my normal mid-day blotting paper. I’ve been using other products to help with sebum control, so I can’t say 100% that this alone has helped!

Price: 32.00
Okay, so I don’t love the price… It does seem a bit steep for a face scrub. However, I do love this product, so I will inevitably purchase again.

Overall thoughts:
I do love the texture of this product, the exfoliating beads are super small and don’t irritate my sensitive and redness prone skin. I’ve used a lot of face scrubs in the past, and none of them were able to give me smooth skin like this one. I am truly in awe every time I use this product (2x a week).

Annnd…. I will probably end up buying the face mask version in the future. I’m definitely hooked on Fresh products!

Gettin’ Cheeky with Benefit

Oh, how I do love some Benefit cosmetics! I recently splurged on two cheek products that I’ve been wanting to try for a while.

majorette

Majorette is advertised as a “booster blush” to help amplify other blush colors (or worn alone). It has an absolutely amazing peachy brightening effect. I’ve only tried this on it’s own so far. It gives me a very natural glow, and I do love a nice coral colored blush. It smooths on very nicely and blends like a dream. The only downside is that the cute packaging is a bit cumbersome.

hoola

I’ve been wanting to try Hoola for a long time, but didn’t manage to pull the trigger until now. I often struggle with finding a bronzer that does not look orange or muddy on my complexion, but this one does the trick! It gives a very subtle warmth and is pretty great for some natural contouring.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

Loving Fresh Sugar Shine

fresh2I’ve long been a fan of the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment balms, but this is my first Sugar Shine Lip Treatment. My lips are very sensitive and perpetually dry, so I have a difficult time wearing lipstick. I got the Rose tinted treatment, and it looks amazing. It instantly makes my dry lips look very healthy! This formula goes on very shiny and keeps my lips super hydrated for hours. It’s definitely my new every day lip product!

The only problem is that I want to go back for more!

Beauty Icon: Josie Maran

If using Argan Oil will help me look as amazing as Josie Maran, I’ll use it every day. I have to admit that I didn’t know a lot about the JMC brand when I first picked up my Argan Oil Light, but I’ve been intrigued ever since I read an article about Josie on Into The Gloss.  Josie is a mom, model and entrepreneur – a true tripple threat! I had no idea she was previously a model, but it makes sense because she is stunning!

JMC
“In 2007 I started Josie Maran Cosmetics, with 100% Pure Argan Oil as my signature ingredient. Today, JMC is a global brand with the motto, “Luxury With a Conscience.” We use pure, Fair Trade Argan Oil, grown and harvested responsibly by co-ops of Moroccan women who earn a living wage. We partner with earth-loving, women-empowering organizations, use eco-friendly packaging, and we never stop striving to improve our products and our impact on the world.” – JM Website

I love her philosophy of aging gracefully, and using beauty products that are also good for our skin. I really want to try more of her products, and I think my next purchase will be the Pure Argan Milk (tried a sample from Sephora, and it feels wonderful). It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by all of the skin care products we have, sometimes I think it may be better to keep things as simple and nourishing as possible.

Berry stained lips

Another fall trend I’ve fallen in love with is deep berry lip colors, anywhere from a light stain to a deep plum pout. This statement lip really pops when paired with minimal makeup and big, dark lashes.

Here are some from my wishlist:

berrylips21. Rouge Pur Couture – #5 Rouge Vintage
2. NARS Audacious Lipstick – Vera
3. NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Cranberry
4. Benefit Hydra Smooth Lip Color – Talk Flirty

Will you be rocking this color? Let me know if you have a favorite!

Eye shadows for fall 2014

I’ve been hearing that metallic shadows are so on trend for this fall. I am certainly loving all of the smoky neutral shadows, it’s a great way to make a chic statement. I love how these can be understated for a day at the office, and then dressed up for a night out.

Here are some shadows I’ve been eyeing for fall:

1. Chanel Illusion D’Ombre – Illusoire
2. Caviar Stick Eye Color – Rose gold
3. Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow – Diamond dog
4. NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow – Dione

Do you have any favorite eye shadows for fall?

Go minimal: Fresh and glowy skin

All summer long I felt the need to have really high coverage for some reason, even though my skin has been behaving fairly well.  I’ve felt that some days my base looked a bit too heavy and obvious, not the effect I was going for!

As we move towards fall I’m craving a lighter look with minimal foundation. We’ll soon be bundling up and layer clothing, so I want to look very fresh faced. I’ve started to embrace the fact that my skin is not perfect; I need to work with a sheer base (or very small amount of higher coverage) to even out my skin tone and a high coverage concealer to hide flaws, which will result in a much lighter look.

Enter the absolutely perfect product… Pixie H20 Sheer Skin Tint. I’ve seen this product raved about, and I finally picked one up. There are only 3 different shades, unfortunately, they don’t have a lot of options for deeper tones. The texture is truly amazing, it’s a cooling gel formula and made to bring extra moisture. It’s a bit like smoothing on a gel moisturizer, but you end up with an evened out skin tone. I picked this up in shade 1 – Cream.

Now you’ll need to pair this type of sheer base with a high coverage concealer for spots and other imperfections. I’ve been loving Benefit Boi-ing, it really is industrial strength! I also want to try the Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer.

IMG_1076 To flaunt an extra glowy complexion, I’ve been loving the Pixie Cheek Tints. This is similar in texture to the Skin Tint, and they pair well together. This is a lovely gel tint that leaves a fresh, sheer wash of color that looks very natural. I have the color ‘natural’ and I really love the hint of flush it gives me.

What base products have you been loving lately?

Beauty supplements: Hum Nutrition

I’ve seen these Hum Nutrition supplements on Sephora and they have always intrigued me. Getting better skin, nails, hair and more from the inside out always seems like a good thing. Hum has a huge array of products, such as: Killer Nails, Red Carpet Ready (glowing skin and hair), Smooth Operator (reduce lines and wrinkles).

The one set that caught my eye is the Red Carpet Ready (25.00 for 1 month supply), who doesn’t want glowing skin and better hair? You get 60 capsules in a bottle and take them twice a day, so the price seems a bit high to me… but then again, supplements tend to be expensive anyway.  This one boasts Black Currant Seed Oil and Vitamin E for Healthy Skin. Keep in mind that most of their listings say to take for 1-3 months to see results – that adds up!

Killer Nails also caught my eye, it has 5000mcg of Biotin, which is great for hair and nails. You also get 60 capsules for 20.00, taken once per day – this seems pretty reasonable. Then I went to the kitchen and had a look at the Biotin supplement that I got at Target…  10,000mcg of Biotin, 60 capsules for 12.99!

While I do think we can get similar results from taking a multivitamin… I can’t deny the fact that I’m still tempted. For now, I think I’ll just stick with my drug store counterparts.

Have you ever tried Hum or a similar supplement?
